Care Instructions
Your Pashmina is more than just a stoleโit's an heirloom piece crafted from the finest cashmere fibres. With proper care, it will remain soft, beautiful, and luxurious for generations.
Washing Your Pashmina
We highly recommend professional dry cleaning for best results.
Due to the delicate nature of the hand-woven fibres, dry cleaning is the safest way to maintain the integrity and softness of your Pashmina. Always inform your dry cleaner that it's 100% pure cashmere.
If you choose to wash at home:
- โ Hand Wash Only: Use cool water (never hot) and a mild, delicate-specific detergent such as baby shampoo or wool wash.
- ๐คฒ Gentle Handling: Do not rub, wring, or twist the stole. Gently squeeze the soapy water through the fabric, allowing it to flow through naturally.
- ๐ Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse in cool water until all detergent is removed. Again, gently squeezeโnever wring.
- ๐งป Drying: Roll the stole in a clean, dry towel to absorb excess water, then lay it flat on a clean surface or drying rack to air-dry completely.
- โ ๏ธ Never hang a wet Pashmina as this can stretch its shape and distort the delicate fibres.
- โ๏ธ Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources such as radiators or dryers.
Storing Your Pashmina
Your Pashmina is an heirloom, so proper storage is essential to preserve its beauty.
Storage Best Practices:
- ๐งผ Clean Before Storing: Always ensure your stole is clean before putting it away. Moths are attracted to body oils, perfumes, and food particles.
- ๐ Use Your Complimentary Bag: Store your Pashmina in the cotton storage bag we provide with every purchase. Cotton is breathable and protects the delicate fibres from dust while preventing moisture buildup. Please avoid using plastic bags, as they trap moisture and can damage natural fibres.
- ๐ฆ Fold, Don't Hang: Store your stole folded neatly rather than hanging. The weight of the fabric can cause stretching and distortion over time, especially at the shoulders.
- ๐ Choose the Right Location: Keep your Pashmina in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight.
- ๐ฟ Natural Moth Repellents: Use cedar balls or lavender sachets to naturally repel moths. Never use chemical mothballs, as they can damage delicate cashmere fibres and leave an unpleasant odor.
Dealing with Pilling
Is pilling normal?
Yes! Minimal pilling is completely normal for genuine, high-quality natural fibres like Pashmina. It's usually a result of friction from rubbing against a coat, bag strap, jewelry, or even a seatbelt.
How to remove pills:
- ๐ชฎ Use a Cashmere Comb or Fabric Shaver: Gently remove pills using a cashmere comb or electric fabric shaver designed for delicate fabrics.
- ๐ Keep Fabric Flat: Always ensure the fabric is flat and dry when removing pills.
- โฐ Pilling Lessens Over Time: As the looser fibres are removed, pilling typically decreases with continued gentle care.
- โ Never pull pills off by hand, as this can damage the weave.
General Care Tips
To keep your Pashmina looking its best:
- ๐ญ Avoid perfumes and sprays directly on the fabric, as they can stain or damage fibres.
- ๐ Remove sharp jewelry when wearing to minimize friction and snagging.
- ๐งฅ Rotate your Pashminas if you own multiple, to allow fibres to rest between wears.
- ๐ฌ๏ธ Air out after wearing by laying flat for a few hours before storing.
- ๐ง Fold carefully along natural lines to avoid permanent creases.
What NOT to Do
- โ Never machine wash your Pashmina
- โ Never use bleach or harsh chemicals
- โ Never tumble dry or place near heat sources
- โ Never wring or twist the fabric when wet
- โ Never hang when wet or for long-term storage
- โ Never iron directly on high heat (if needed, use lowest setting with a pressing cloth)
